Blue's Missing Year

Let me start at the beginning...

Saw a dog all alone in the middle of a baseball field.  No ID tags only a REALLY dirty collar.  Took a few minutes of my time to persuade her to come with me.  After a couple of belly rubs and shy kisses she attempted to jump into the truck bed.  Her chunky butt couldn't quite make it so I heaved her up.  Drove over to a nearby animal clinic and had her scanned for a chip. Instantly a number came up.  The amazing staff obtained her info in record time.  She was registered to a rescue group about 3-4 cities away.  The person they talked to wouldn't be able to get us the dog's owner's info until the next day, since it was around closing time when we found her.  We said we could take her home and watch over her until the next day.  Fiance and I went a little crazy and built her a dog house that night out of scrap wood we had lying around.  It's big enough for me and Blue to fit inside!

Waiting for her chip info.

She has endless amounts of kisses!
Over the next couple of days things happen so fast!  We get in contact with her previous owner who says she's been missing for OVER a year!  She can't take her back and we volunteer to have her transferred over into our ownership.  We get her registration papers not long after and just like, that we have our first dog as a couple!

I bought her a new collar the very first night we took care of her.

Giant tennis ball that she has already flattened.
I've always been curious about her missing year between the chip owner and us.  I assumed the worst: someone found her and kept her WITHOUT getting her scanned for a chip.  Basically stealing her from her rightful owners.
We were walking her this weekend and noticed a white car drive by us a few times.  I write it off as someone who forgot something at their house and had to make a u-turn.  We start walking up one street and there's this crowd of people who keeps walking out onto the sidewalk looking directly at us.  At this point I'm getting really apprehensive and start to lead Blue into the street to walk around these crazy people.  One lady starts calling out a name: "Shady".  Blue is her usual happy self and walks up to the lady with tail wags.  The whole group starts talking at once: "It's her!"  "She looks the same"  "The scar on her nose gave her away" "Knew that was Shady".  My fiance and I are confused and slightly annoyed.  I was more defensive than annoyed, I really don't trust random people who have been staring at me from a block away.  Turns out Blue use to be Shady.  She ran away from this large family not too long ago.  We told them the story of how we found her and had her scanned for a chip.  They seemed shocked she had identification implanted in her.  Some things we learned from this family that out numbered us:

-Blue hates thunderstorms/ fireworks and WILL run away (we've already experienced this)
-She's great at busting out of gates (also known already, the evidence can be seen on our gates)
-Use to live indoors
-Seems ok with puppies but not adult dogs
-Loves people (duh!)
-Will return home after running away
-Can open sliding doors with her nose

The lady who had been driving the white car got emotional over seeing the dog again.  Said she had been looking for her for weeks after she ran away.  I saw no signs around the neighborhood or ads on craigslist about a missing blue Pitbull during the first weeks we had Blue...screams guilty, no?  She saw us walking and knew it was her right away and turned around.  The whole time this encounter was happening I was severely uncomfortable.  My assumptions had been correct back when we had talked to her previous registered owner.  This large family had found her and did nothing to try to get her back to her real owners.  They just kept her.  I almost see it as kidnapping her.  That really disturbs me.  Even 24 hours after this all took place I'm still getting worked up!  Luckily they didn't ask for her back because we let them know we have her registered in our name.  On paperwork she is our dog now.  Of course we did it in a subtle and civil manner.  The lady said she was happy that Blue found a good family and we went on our way.
I'm definitely not walking down that street again.  It's weird to know that people a few minutes from our house just take in dogs and keep them.  Maybe this post is a little too emotional to be set free but this is how I feel.  I know most dogs have checkered pasts but this just seemed wrong.  How do I know they won't follow me home one day after I walk her and steal her out of my yard?  Unfortunately it's a common theme in my city.  I hate thinking in such a cynical way but it's better to be realistic than ignorant.
Hopefully nothing adverse will happen and Blue will enjoy the rest of her doggy life with us.  That's all I can ask for.
All smiles when people are around!

Quality time with Blue

Took Blue in to the Vet's for the very first time this afternoon.  It was big in two ways:  1) I didn't know how she would react to being in a facility with other animals 2) It's only the second time I've been back to my old work place in the 6 months after quitting.  Of course I was worried for no good reason.  Blue did amazing, except for the 3 times she farted, and it was so great to see a handful of old coworkers!  The whole reason I had to take her in was to get her registered.  Last week she busted out of the yard because of the thunderstorms and animal control picked her up.  Luckily the guy just gave us a warning, no charge!  It's amazing to me that such a tough and chill pitbull is deathly afraid of thunderstorms.  Anyways everyone was surprised by her temperament.  One doc even said she acted more like a lab with all the love she was giving everyone.  I consider myself fortunate to have rescued her from that baseball field.  She truly is a good dog.

That smile get's me every time!

Kiss attack!

I <3 plaid shirt dresses.  So comfy when paired with leggings !

Off to Court

Who knew sitting in a chair all day would be so brutal!?  Went to jury duty for the first time today and now see why the majority of the nation throws their summons away.  I feel like I wasted an ENTIRE DAY OF MY LIFE!

Some thoughts I had throughout the day:

-BORED out of my mind
-Fun seeing a coworker also at jury duty!
-Dread (when my name was called last for the very first jury panel of the day.  The lady hadn't even finished her orientation speech)
-Nervousness when walking into the actual court room
-Stuffy.  Courtroom was small with wood paneling everywhere and too many men in suits.
-The hidden panel door the judge came through was pretty bad ass
-Uncomfortable (tights + skirt = static)
-One of the bailiffs looked like a stuffed sausage in his protective vest and uniform.  Don't get me wrong he was still super intimidating but I couldn't help but chuckle every time it took him a minute to sit down.
-Fellow jurors were pretty nice
-Rainbow bow tie!  A judge that gave an intro speech was totally rocking the colorful bow tie.  Pretty snazzy for an old guy.
-Learning personal insights of strangers is very strange
-Sleeping in was kind of nice

Cardigan, white tank, black skirt, brown stretchy belt, white floral tights, brown boots, new infinity scarf and small bird necklace you can't see :)

This is the face of a tired potential juror
Have to go back tomorrow....lucky me.

Flights of Fancy

I went a little bird crazy this weekend and bought four, no six new bird related accessories!  This is silly because I can't even wear jewelry to work.  I strung them up on my chandelier and attempted to take a few nice pics of my entire collection (new and old purchases).

1) Black & white feathered earrings

2) Black & silver sparrow earrings
3) Leather cord necklace with one gold metal feather, pink stone, blue and white feathers

4) Peacock necklace = LOVE

5) Silver baby bird (part of the Shanalogic Necklace of the Month Club: http://www.shanalogic.com/wordpress/?p=6299)  It almost reminds me of the hunger games, and yes I wore it when I saw the movie.

6) Gold necklace with bling and a big feather accent

7) Gorgeous turquoise and black feather earrings with blingy gold spheres

8) Breath taking gold feather with blue rhinestones.  May possibly wear it during my wedding?!

9) Black, white and orange twin feather necklace

10) Silver bird in flight with a heart leaf in its beak....oh and Ninjie Star in the background!

New tradition

I've decided to start a new tradition for myself.  Every time I work overtime at work I'm going to pick up some yummy snacks at Trader Joe's right after!  This is the second time I've gone and this is the loot I came away with:
nom nom's!
-Pretzel slims, everything flavor!!!
-Wasabi flavored seaweed (I've been hooked ever since a co-worker brought it in to share at work and only 0.99 cents a pack)
-Raw almonds (There's something so fresh and natural about these raw nuts)
-Rainbow's end trail mix (peanuts, chocolate pieces, raisins, and almonds)
-Nuts About Raspberries & Chocolate Trek Mix (such a fun name, couldn't resist)
-Peanut butter filled cupcakes (Not too sweet and the frosting is so rich it's to die for!)
and the pièce de résistance :  Dark chocolate covered mini pretzels (a bit salty and sweet all in one)!

I'm hoping this stash lasts me at least 2 weeks.  Also that I can maybe get some more over time so I have a valid excuse to buy more Trader Joe's snacky cakes :)  I never feel guilty eating these snacks.

Side note 1:  I thought over time would be more of a hassle but it was actually enjoyable!  Clocked in at 5am and out at 12:30pm.  Not so bad!  I was able to get all of my errands done in the afternoon as well (4 different stops)!  Felt so good to accomplish so much in one day!  The gorgeous weather was a pretty good bonus too ;)

Side note 2:  Couldn't help but try on my wedding dress again!  Updated "Hints of Goregous" with some more pics.  I truly feel like a dream wearing and seeing the gown.  To end off the night I'm gonna watch a super girly movie (Monte Carlo) and enjoy the wonderful crazy antics of my kitty herd.
