DIY-ish Wedding Anniversary Gift for him

I wanted to come up with a creative and thoughtful gift for my hubby of one whole year.  What I came up with was a ton of fun to do and create!

One Year Wedding Anniversary Photo Shoot

Looking back at an awesome year of marriage!
I was able to wear my most expensive gown again and get all done up like a princess just for the heck of it!

Tools/ Materials:
-Wedding gown
-Friend to take gorgeous pics (for free!)
-Friend to style hair
-Make up artist (Aveda store at the mall.  Instead of paying a service fee they just let me buy some products.  So I was able to get my make up down and walk away with stuff too!)
-Accessories (for me it consisted of 3 different necklaces, a wrap, and a simple bouquet)
-Location with natural light
-Photo center

After getting copies of the pictures I uploaded them to my local photo center (Walgreens in this case) and make a cute little photo book in about an hour!

I had so much fun with this project that I might try it again until the dress doesn't fit any more!  Might as well get as many uses out of it as I can right?!

Corgi Connection

Karma isn't such a bitch after all!

A few weeks ago I found a sweet corgi wandering the streets.  He followed Blue and I home so I decided to put FOUND posters up, post a craiglist ad and file a report with the animal shelter.  I figured if I lost my dog I would hope someone else would do the same.  The little guy was well groomed so I knew he belonged to somebody out there.

4 days later his family contacts me and picks him up.  Turns out he was the companion of a precious little deaf girl.  Whenever she strays too far from the house he alerts the parents right away.  Too freaking sweet!  I wouldn't have believed it if they hadn't brought her with them to pick the little guy up.

I asked where they got him because he was so well tempered and got along with my big dumb pit (which never usually happens!).  Turns out their sister’s corgi just had puppies around the time I found their dog.  This was a few weeks ago.  They said they would call me to let me take first pick.

I didn't hear anything for weeks so I figured they forgot.  Tonight I got a call saying they could drop off my new puppy right away!

Sometimes the hardest thing to do is the right thing to do  ß that saying is no freaking joke.  I don’t have time for a puppy right now so I had to decline their offer of a free corgi.  They even picked out one who looked like the dog I returned to them!  *sigh* I asked if they were planning on having puppies in the future (like a year from now) and they said that all I needed to do was call them and they would still give me a puppy free of charge.  It’s amazing to know that gracious and appreciative people are still out there in the world.  I was able to make their day by returning their dog and in return I now have a corgi connection for when I’m ready to bring my dream dog into my life.

Life is good and who knew that some people are too!

DIY Memory Box

DIY Memory Box

This project was plucked from Pinterest, something I've been spending WAY too much time on lately.
I have a mild obsession with calendars.  I have a bunch of old ones lying around the house taking up too much valuable storage space in my tiny house.
This memory box can hold years of memories in a small compact space.  It's a daily calendar that can be reused every year and gets better the longer you use it. There’s a card for each day.  You write the year and something fun that happened that day like adopted two kitties or bought a new car.  Imagine all the memories one can build up in 10 years!

What You’ll Need:

  •          Index cards (Over 360)
  •          Scrap-booking paper
  •          Glue
  •          Scissors
  •          Pen
  •          Wood
  •          Paint
  •          Wood putty

First I started making the monthly cards.  I wanted them to stand taller than the regular index cards so I added some extra length.  I fitted the scrap-booking paper to the same width of the index cards, snipped and then glued them on.  Super easy!

Second I needed a box.  This is where my handy hubby came in.  He helped me fabricate a wooden box using left over scraps from another project.  We measured for the cards to fit perfectly into the inside.  To create a bottom we cut slots in all four sides and slipped in a thin piece of wood as the base.  It’s all held together with some wood glue. Let dry for awhile.  Fill in any holes with woody putty, sand afterwards.

Third I needed a splash of color.  Glidden a few years ago was offering free samples and I took full advantage!  Peacock Blue was the one!

Four Fill the box with memories.

DIY speckled glasses

Today the sun decided to come out and so I moved my crafting outdoors.  I've been wanting to do this little project for weeks now but haven't had the down time.  Alright let's get to it!

DIY Speckled Glasses

Materials list:
  • Glasses (99 cent store)
  • Nail polish
  • Sharpie
Super simple project!  Since I can't wear nail polish at work I decided to apply it else where!  First using my silver sharpie I mapped out where I wanted my dots to go.  Then I painted the dots using the most vibrant color in my scheme.  The lighter colors were used as fillers to add dimension to the design.  That's it!

Princess-ish speckles

Speckles every where!

Malibu Wines

First off, Happy Cinco de Mayo!!  Today was full of mid-day adventures.  A friend of a friend was celebrating her birthday at the beautiful Malibu Wines.  This place is such a fun and novel idea!

This took me awhile to figure out, and I was still sober :/
They provide a bottle service and have a bunch of picnic tables, fire pits and chairs set up everywhere in this wonderful outdoor space.  You can bring your own food to munch on while tasting their different varieties of wine.  It was a nice casual atmosphere with a guitar duo strumming away some soothing tunes.  I definitely had a great time even though I was freezing my bum off in this cool May weather.

Finally hanging out with my Emy girllll.

It's hard to tell but that stage coach has an aquarium built into it!

Wine fountain!

Birthday girl in pink (salmon??) whatever...the bright fun color!!

This is me (left) and my tipsy stance ^_^

Color Me Mine

It was like revisiting my childhood.  I got so excited to learn they opened a Color Me Mine in town!  My friend and I were there for hours getting lost in the peacefulness of painting.

My creation in one photo

Naked!!

Layer one, light color first covering the bottom completely.

Second layer, slightly darker coat from the middle to the top and viola, ombre! To blend the two colors I wet the brush with water and blended the two so no visible line could be seen.

Then the design!  I came up with these geometric lines back in school.  They were great for passing the time during lectures ;)

Ready for the kiln!

One week later...
Shiny!!

The little things...

Today was a pretty ordinary day but one event made it a bit sunnier. I was out shopping for groceries and had a nice conversation with a complete stranger.  It wasn't weird or anything just pure niceness....is that even a word?  Anyways it was refreshing to strike up a conversation without feeling like there was some ulterior motive.

It's the little things that get to me sometimes.

Closet Overhaul

Today was the day to finally re-organize my closet.  I stumbled upon the the above pin and thought it was genius.  I probably won't wait a whole year though, maybe 6 months.  Also I think dresses will be excluded from the rule since I barely wear them anyways.  I'm excited to see what I wear and what I need to good will in 6 months!
